For URGENT health advice

The Beacon Health Centre provides GP services to all Isle of Wight residents and visitors and is located by the main entrance to St Mary's Hospital, Newport.

You do not have to be registered with the Centre to see a GP. However, if you are already seeing your own GP about an ongoing problem which is causing you concern, we advise you make an appointment with your GP.


The centre provides a walk-in service from 8am-8pm.

The kinds of problem the centre can help with include:

  • Muscle and joint injuries, sprains and strains
  • Burns and scalds
  • Coughs, colds and flu
  • Sore throats and earache
  • Rashes and allergic reactions
  • Bites and stings
  • Eye injuries and infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Emergency contraception
  • Any other health problems that are causing you concern


From 8pm until 8am, every night of the week, a GP is available for urgent health problems.

As a general rule, here are a few useful hints for knowing when to seek urgent help:

  • Failure of symptoms to settle as advised by another health professional
  • Failure of usual medication or simple home treatments to work
  • Unpleasant or severe pain not responding to simple pain killers
  • Persistent and recent chest pain
  • Persistent and recent tummy pain
  • An unwell child especially under the age of 2yrs
  • A persistent high fever despite simple medications
  • Persistent diarrhoea or vomiting
  • Recent or worsening symptoms over a few days
  • Shortness of breath especially if not able to speak in sentences
  • New rashes especially if developing rapidly
  • Recent confusion or unusual behaviour
  • Acute mental health problems
  • Emergency contraception
  • Run out of prescribed medication
